Emergency weather alerts

Emergency weather alerts

“How do I know if classes are canceled due to dangerous weather conditions or hurricanes?”

SPC does a really good job of keeping students informed of what is going on around campus. There is actually a blog that can give you all the information you may need regarding emergency alerts and updates on weather conditions. The link is http://spcemergency.wordpress.com/.

Furthermore, for those who like to receive updates on their phones, you can make it an option by syncing your cell phone number to receive emergency texts through MySPC. In the same site, there is information on how to get the alerts on your phone.

Downtown parking permits

Downtown parking permits

“If I’m only taking one of my classes at downtown do I still need to buy a permit?”

Yes, even if it is only one class you must purchase a parking permit.

Unfortunately, due to the limited space in SPC Downtown’s parking garage all cars must have a parking permit. The permits also sell out pretty quickly so be on the look out around the beginning of the semester if you want to purchase one. Additional options are: you can park across the street for $5 a day or use the city meters.

You can find more information about parking requirements at SPC Downtown and at SPC on the college’s website.

Have a complaint?

Have a complaint?

“How do I file a complaint regarding a class with the college?”

Information about how to file a complaint with the college is on the SPC website at www.spcollege.edu/complaint.

The procedures listed at the site first ask you to talk with a staff member: “Seek direct conflict resolution whenever possible by communicating directly with the college employee responsible for the service or area of complaint.”

If you aren’t comfortable approaching an employee directly or decide you would like to file a formal complaint, then the first step would be to fill out this form: https://www.spcollege.edu/survey/13002.

By completing this survey, your complaint will be properly documented and forwarded to the appropriate individual who can help you. If you would like to have more information regarding complaints, then feel free to access the site.

Personal development

Personal development

“I already have a bachelor’s degree but am interested in taking some courses for personal development. Do I have to get on a degree track?”

Education is definitely a lifelong pursuit. Thankfully, SPC offers many courses for personal development in various areas of study. You can find info on these courses in the Lifelong Learning section of SPC’s website.

You can also choose to take classes that grant college credit without seeking a degree. To do this, first apply to SPC as a non-degree seeking student taking courses for enrichment purposes. The college’s online application can be found at http://www.spcollege.edu/apply/.

Just keep in mind that in order to receive financial aid or to be eligible for some scholarships, you need to be in a degree track and taking courses toward that degree.
