Don’t click with the teacher?

Don’t click with the teacher?

What should I do if I don’t get along with my professor?

Dear Evan,

I’m so sorry to hear that. I know what it’s like to not get along with your professor. Sometimes, it is not possible to make a connection with them.

My first tip would be to not allow the professor to overwhelm your experience in the classroom. Focus on the material,  not the teacher. Your professor is just there to guide you, not influence your own ideas.

The second tip would be for you to focus on how your teacher works, what is important to him or her, what does he or she like when it comes to assignment and projects. If your professor likes to have class discussions, then always try to bring something meaningful to contribute. If your professor puts more importance to writing assignments, then make sure you visit the Writing Studio before submitting your essay.

I know it sounds like it is more important for you adapt yourself to the teacher’s demands instead of the other way around, but remember, you are not the only student in the class. Try to make the best of it.

Look at it as a challenge. By the end of the semester you may survive the class with an A, even if the teacher was horrible. I have to say that, from my experience, some of my most memorable professors are the ones I did not like at the beginning.
